Devotional: Serving with Purpose

Updated: Dec 29, 2024

While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them' – Acts 13:2.

This passage reminds us that God’s direction often comes when we are intentionally seeking Him through worship and prayer.

Are you in a season of seeking direction or purpose? Like the believers in Antioch, take time to pause, worship, and fast. These practices tune our hearts to God’s voice and align us with His will. Perhaps He is calling you to step into a new role, serve in a ministry, or share His love with someone specific. Trust that when you seek Him, He will reveal His plans for you in His timing.

Set aside intentional time for worship and prayer. Consider fasting from something—be it food, social media, or another distraction—and use that time to listen for God’s guidance. Ask, "Lord, where are You calling me to serve or grow?"

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for always speaking even when I am not listening. Teach me to seek You with open heart and obedient spirit. Help me to trust in Your plans and to boldly step into the work You have set apart for me at this season. Lead me by Your Spirit, and may my life bring You glory. In Jesus' name, Amen.
